They must have proved a hit last time around, as two members of Tralee Toastmasters, Justin McCarthy and Anthony Garvey were invited back to speak to the three sixth classes this morning. Anthony is club President of the Tralee Branch while Justin is an active member. Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission:
‘We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self confidence and personal growth’.
Anthony treated the pupils to his speech entitled ‘Come to the edge’ which was filled with drama, comical anecdotes as well as a blast of song! Justin analysed the speech with the pupils. They also spoke to the pupils about techniques to improve their confidence and public speaking skills. Many thanks to our two guests for their time and expertise and to Mrs. Denise O’Dowd who organised the visit. Mrs. O’Dowd is planning to set up a debating club in Scoil Eoin with Anthony and Justin acting as mentors.
